The short answer. Claim both, free. Apple Business Connect and Bing Places for salons each have an owner claim path. Apple's tool, renamed Apple Business in April 2026, controls what Siri and Apple Maps say about you (Apple). Bing Places controls Bing. Neither shows your Google reviews. On 19 of the 20 top-ranked salons I checked, Bing showed Yelp's rating.
Key facts.
- Bing Maps showed Yelp's rating on 19 of the 20 salons that rank first on Google for hair or nails in 10 US cities, in my check of each listing on September 28, 2026.
- The Yelp rating Bing showed had a median of 4.0 stars on 159 reviews, for salons with a median of 4.8 stars on 1,100 reviews on Google, in the same September 28, 2026 check.
- Apple Maps showed Yelp's stars on 14 of the same 20 salons and its own thumbs-up count on 5, and 0 cards on either map showed the Google rating, in the same check.
- Apple still showed its "Claim This Place" link on 13 of the 20 salon pages and Bing showed its verified-business badge on 10, in the same check of salons that rank first on Google.
- 45% of US consumers used an AI assistant to find a local business in the past year, up from 6% the year before, in BrightLocal's 2026 survey of 1,002 US adults.
Claim both, today, and then claim the Yelp page they borrow from. Apple's listing tool (renamed Apple Business in April 2026, and it costs nothing) controls what Siri and Apple Maps say about you (Apple, March 2026). Bing Places controls Bing search and Bing Maps. Neither shows your Google reviews. On September 28 I looked up the 20 salons that won Google's city pack for hair and nails across 10 US cities. Bing put Yelp's rating on 19 of them: a median of 4 stars on 159 reviews, for salons that sit at 4.8 on 1,100 on Google. Apple showed Yelp's stars on 14 and its own thumbs-up count on 5. Not one card on either map carried the Google rating the owner worked for.
What do Apple Maps and Bing show about a salon that ranks first on Google?
They show Yelp's stars, or the map's own count, on every card that has a rating. Not one of the 20 salons I checked carried its Google rating onto Apple Maps or Bing Maps.
Credit first. These 20 are some of the best-run salons in the country on Google. Salon Surreal in Phoenix has about 1,400 reviews at 4.9. Lush Nail Bar in Atlanta has about 3,000 at 4.8. You do not get there by accident. That is years of asking every client, on every good day.
BUT search Salon Surreal on Apple Maps and the card says 4.4 stars from 228 Yelp reviews. Lush shows 4.0 from 368. Search Nail Honey in Philadelphia on Bing and you get 2.5 stars from 6 Yelp reviews. On Google it is 4.8 from 885.

Source: my check of the 20 listings on September 28, 2026, Google figures from our September 15 count. Method below.
The category line surprised me more. On Apple, 2 of the 10 best-rated nail salons in their cities are filed as "Waxing Service," 1 as "Beauty Salon," and 1 as "Nail Technician." A client scrolling Apple Maps for a nail salon sees those 4 filed under something else. On Bing, 3 of the 10 hair winners are "Beauty & spa." And 1 Bing card points its website link to a third-party page instead of the salon's own site.
Then the owner question. Apple still showed its "Claim This Place" link on 13 of the 20 pages. Bing showed its verified-business badge on 10. Only 4 salons had a badge on Bing and no claim link on Apple. These are the winners, the salons with the most reason to have done this already.
Where do Siri, Copilot and ChatGPT get their business information?
Siri reads Apple Maps and Gemini reads Google Maps. ChatGPT and Perplexity assemble you from several places, Yelp among them, and Microsoft has named Copilot as the next stop for Bing Places listings.
Nobody publishes a clean map of this. Here is what the companies have said themselves, and what has been measured with a method.
Gemini reads Google Maps. SOCi found Gemini's business details were right 100% of the time, because it is "grounded directly in Google Maps" (SOCi, March 2026).
ChatGPT and Perplexity assemble you from several places, and get you wrong more. The same SOCi work put their profile accuracy at 68%: old hours, wrong addresses, services a business no longer offers. Yelp told its shareholders in its second-quarter letter that "Yelp ratings and reviews recently began powering ChatGPT's local experience" (Yelp Q2 2026 letter). Perplexity has licensed Yelp's business data since 2024 (Maginative).
Siri reads Apple Maps. Apple says its listing tool reaches customers "across Apple Maps, Mail, Wallet, Siri, and more" (Apple). And the Apple card borrows Yelp: the same Yelp letter credits "our success with Apple Maps" for its Request-a-Quote button, which sat on 6 of our 20 salon cards. A salon does not do quotes. It books.
Copilot and Bing. Microsoft says Bing Places listings appear in Bing search and Bing Maps, with deeper Copilot integration next (Bing, October 2025).
One claim I did not use. The "60 to 70 percent of ChatGPT's local names come from Foursquare" line is repeated widely, and the page that repeats it shows no method or sample (vyzz). A May 2026 count of 1,732 sources ChatGPT pointed to across 9 cities found google.com 130 times and no Foursquare or Bing Places page at all (Formative Digital). Nobody outside OpenAI has the recipe. Our own 15-prompt run on how ChatGPT recommends local businesses shows what it points to when it names a salon. It checks you against more than one place, and that is enough to act on.
Why it matters now: 45% of US consumers used an AI assistant to find a local business in the past year, up from 6% the year before (BrightLocal, March 2026). The assistant names a handful and moves on. ChatGPT recommended 1.2% of the 350,000 locations SOCi tracked, against 35.9% that made Google's pack (SOCi, January 2026). A salon's marketing has always been about being the one chosen when the people looking nearby meet every other business nearby that does what she does. The door where that happens is now a machine checking several sources for agreement, and a salon that says 4.8 in one place and 2.5 in another is the one it skips.
How do I claim my business on Apple Maps and Bing?
Claim Apple at business.apple.com and Bing at bing.com/forbusiness, with your Google Business Profile fixed first and your Yelp page claimed right after. One sitting, in this order, for a single location. None of these steps costs anything.
- Google Business Profile first. Primary category right, hours right, services with prices. Gemini reads it directly, and Bing can copy it.
- Apple. Claim at business.apple.com. Set the category to what you are (Nail Salon, Hair Salon, Barber Shop), because 4 of the 10 nail winners we checked were filed as something else. Hours, phone, website, photos. Add the booking action so the card says Schedule instead of Quote. Square sellers can now sync hours, phone and a Book action to Apple Maps from the Square dashboard (The Apple Post, September 2026).
- Bing. Claim at bing.com/forbusiness and import from Google, which Microsoft says now keeps the name, hours and contact details intact (Bing). Then read the card. Check the category and the website link by hand.
- Yelp. Claim the page, fix the category and hours, and read your last 10 reviews, because that is the rating Apple and Bing are showing. Do not pay for ads to fix it, for the reasons in is Yelp worth it for salons. Yelp's rules against asking for reviews mean the Google habit does not carry over, so the fix here is a correct page, not a campaign.
- Then the test. Ask Siri, Copilot and ChatGPT for your salon by name, and write down what each says about your hours. The assistants that give you nothing to claim are covered in how to get your business recommended by AI assistants.
The step that slips is not the claiming. It is keeping 5 listings saying the same thing every time you change your Sunday hours or add a service. That upkeep, the same hours and services on Google, Apple, Bing and Yelp and a page for each service, is what we built the Discovery Agent at Zoca to carry.
Where Zoca fits
This article is about the second of the 3 ways the front door breaks. People find you, on a map you did not know you had, and choose the salon on the corner because your card says 3.5 and Quote. Here is the job when Zoca is hired for it.
The read, before you pay. We look at your zip code in your numbers: how many people nearby are looking for each thing you do, who comes up first on Google, and what Apple, Bing and Yelp say about you next to them, stars, hours, category and all. The free Google Business Profile Optimizer scores the profile the others copy, and the free website audit checks the page every assistant falls back on.
Two halves. Zoca's half: the Discovery Agent keeps your Google profile, service pages and listings saying one thing, with your Apple and Bing cards checked in the read, before anything is touched. The Booking Agent runs online bookings and payments free, so there is a booking link worth putting on every card. The Front Desk Agent answers the call that comes from a map at 9pm. Your half: claiming the Apple, Bing and Yelp pages yourself, because those companies verify the owner and not us, then reviews at a pace we agree on, counted as how many clients you ask, and photos of the work every week. Those 2 agents are paid hires (pricing). We cannot change a Yelp rating, and neither can anyone honest.
One of 3 answers. Sometimes next week, because Google is strong and the other maps were never claimed, and fixing a category and a booking button is an afternoon. Or 60 to 90 days, said out loud at the start, because the Google side needs pages and reviews before the copies are worth making. And sometimes not yet, because nobody nearby is looking for what you added, and a perfect Apple card does not create people looking. Not yet is an answer we give before your card is out.
The Friday report. One sentence on the week, then a line each: reviews ahead or behind, photos done, what Zoca did, whether all 4 maps still show the same hours, each service in the race or holding top 3, and what to do this week. It lives on your screen, not in an account manager's head.
How we know
The listing check is mine. The sample is the #1 hair and #1 nail salon in Google's city pack in Phoenix, Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, Nashville, Columbus, Tucson and Boise, recorded on September 15, 2026. On September 28 I searched each on Apple Maps and Bing Maps on the web, logged out, and recorded the category, the rating and whose it was, the buttons, Apple's claim link and Bing's verified badge. One swap: both maps returned the downtown Element Nail Bar in Phoenix, which was #3 in the same Google pack, so it is compared with its own Google numbers (4.8 on 952). Bing rounds to the half star. A claim link tells you Apple offers the claim, not that nobody owns the page. 20 salons on 1 day is a small count of the best-rated salons in 10 cities, not a benchmark.
The pages ranking for these searches explain how to sign up. None says Apple and Bing show Yelp's rating, and none mentions a salon.
Frequently asked questions
Is Apple Business Connect free?
Yes. Apple folded Apple Business Connect into Apple Business on April 14, 2026, at no charge, and existing claimed locations moved over on their own (Apple). Claiming your salon's card and editing its category, hours, photos and buttons costs nothing. Ads on Apple Maps are the paid part, launching in the US and Canada.
Why does Apple Maps show Yelp reviews instead of my Google reviews?
Apple Maps puts Yelp's stars on the card, or its own thumbs-up count, and not your Google rating. In our check of 20 top salons on September 28, 2026, 14 showed Yelp's stars on Apple, 5 showed Apple's own ratings, and 0 showed Google's. You control the category, hours, photos and buttons. The stars come from Yelp.
Can I import my Google Business Profile into Bing Places?
Yes. Bing Places has an import from Google that Microsoft improved in October 2025 to keep the name, hours and contact details (Bing). Check the category and the website link on the card afterwards. In our check, 3 of the 10 hair winners were filed as "Beauty & spa" on Bing, and 1 card linked to a third-party page.
Does ChatGPT use Bing Places or Foursquare?
Nobody outside OpenAI has published it. Yelp says its reviews now power ChatGPT's local answers (Yelp), and a May 2026 count of 1,732 sources ChatGPT pointed to found no Bing Places or Foursquare page among them (Formative Digital). Keep your Google, Apple, Bing and Yelp pages saying the same thing and the question stops mattering.
